
The Alpha and Beta also contain the Headhunter gametype that was not available in retail Halo 2, but was later introduced in Halo: Reach. The Alpha has also been patched by Grimdoomer to allow LAN play (and therefore online play over XLink Kai), as well as to allow players to create their own game variants.

The Beta can actually use saved game variants created for the retail version of Halo 2 too.Īdditionally, ToXZiN 1 from AssemblerGames recently purchased the Halo 2 Alpha build, and has now released that to the public for the first time. This patch and DLC is required for online play apparently, and I'm guessing it's not locked to the HDD key, like retail DLC is. Furthermore, the long lost DLC for the Halo 2 Beta is now available, which consists of the Lockout map and a patch that updates the game to "BETA BUILD UPDATE 3". Now, however, some people have finally managed to patch the game to support LAN play, which of course means it can also be played over XLink Kai.
